Working with Sol Gabetta and the BBC, 59 productions have created a cutting-edge
projection mapping project that combines tracking and projection technology with
musical performance to celebrate the cello season at the 2016 BBC Proms.
In a world first, 59 have created a bespoke piece of animation that is projected onto
Sol’s cello whilst performing an extract from Elgar’s Cello Concerto. The animation
both reacts to and visualises elements of the piece whilst tracking Sol and her
instrument’s movement during her performance, creating a piece which shows the
cello in a brand new light.
