A dazzling night, a glittering ball, something wonderful is bound to happen when the ultimate fairytale – Joburg Ballet’s production of Cinderella – comes to The Teatro at Montecasino from 14 to 23 December. Marking the company’s first major season at the highly popular venue, Cinderella offers an unmissable chance for Teatro audiences to enjoy Joburg’s world-class ballet company as it expands its reach this holiday season.
Choreographed by Joburg Ballet’s artistic director Iain MacDonald in 2013, Cinderella will waltz across The Teatro stage with Johann Strauss’s champagne-infused melodies providing the perfect musical setting for the ultimate rags-to-riches tale. Andrew Botha’s glittering designs frame the action, and the full company will light up the theatre in a family-friendly production brimming with charm and magic.
Vanessa Nicolau, of Vanessa Nicolau Theatre and Events, spoke with ETECH in a recent interview about the considerable preparations that she and her team are making to modify the set for Cinderella for the Teatro’s stage. “Alistor Kilbey, [managing director at Splitbeam, part of the Gearhouse group of companies] and the team have been extremely supportive of the ballet over the years, and have once again come to our aid for our debut at The Teatro,” she states. ETECH will be covering Joburg Ballet’s debut at The Teatro in the November December edition of ETECH Magazine.
“Cinderella is one of the company’s most popular and highly acclaimed productions,” MacDonald said. “Strauss composed some of the most enchanting, best-loved and memorable classical music ever written and Cinderella, his only ballet score, is no exception. In December Christmas will be just around the corner, making Cinderella the perfect ballet for the holiday season and the ideal way to introduce Joburg Ballet to a wider Johannesburg audience.”
