Kagiso Moima Wa Masimini, the owner of South African based rental company
Blackmotion, recently invested in 12 Robe Spiiders, which were used at this years’
Johannesburg edition of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
David Tlale is known locally as the “King of Fashion’, despite his humble beginnings
growing up in Vosloorus, a township south of Boksburg in Johannesburg. The
illustrious designer employed the services of Blackmotion to light his show at MB
Fashion Week, which was billed to be the highlight of the Johannesburg edition of the
2017 show.
Over the 15 years since Tlale launched his brand, he has showcased designs at all of
the premium fashion week platforms and etched his mark as a favourite on the South
African and African fashion landscapes. Tlale has taken his work around the world and
partnered with a number of influential brands in South Africa. In 2009, he was
awarded Fashion Designer of the year at the Africa Fashion Awards in Johannesburg,
and later made his debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York with a collection
entitled “Cultural Intimacy.’
“For Tlale’s show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Joburg – we lit the fashion
ramp with Robe Spiiders,’ said Kagiso. “They were used for coverage as white light.
We had to go 8000K (which we got) to achieve the desired colour temperature. They
worked really well, and Tlale was impressed, not only with the brightness but also the
quality of light that came from the LED.’
Tlale’s collection, titled “Glamour’ was an indomitable success and a highlight of the
showing, which was held between 17 and 19 August.
