Surge Sound, the local distributor of Smaart, a world-renowned FFT-based software platform, recently hosted a three-day Smaart training workshop for sound engineers from all over Africa.
Sound engineers across the world use Smaart to assist with tasks like feedback elimination and channel equalisation, as well as to help with setting up and aligning speaker systems in the live performance environment.
Ruan Joubert, the only certified Smaart trainer in Africa, has been educating sound engineers on the use of sound system measurement software for the past four years and is passionate about empowering local sound engineers with the skills to get the most out of their Smaart software packages.
“Smaart is a really useful tool for any live event or installed sound system, as it assists engineers to make multiple components work as a single unit efficiently,” Joubert explains. “While the software is very user –friendly, Smaart training provides attendees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to get the most out of the software.”
Abraham Isaack, a sound engineer from Tanzania, travelled to Johannesburg to attend the training. Following the course, Isaack explained that Ruan had taught him how to use various aspects of the Smaart software package, including Smaart Live, which he feels will continue to aid him in his career. Kelvin Egbegi, a Nigerian sound engineer who also attended the course, commented: “Ruan is a very skilled training facilitator. He simplified a lot of the more technical aspects in such a way that it was easy to understand and is always willing to answer questions.”
Surge Sound will be providing the next iteration of Smaart training in the first quarter of 2019. The company also provides in-house training on demand for clients who have groups of engineers that would benefit from Smaart training.
